George Bush and Graves' Disease

A Little Something "Interesting"
George Bush and Graves' Disease
VIEWPOINT ~ Sue Rose

I've been shown the need to clarify my point of view on this link to George Bush and Graves' Disease, et al.
I would like to explain the definition of "Interesting" as it is used in the header. The way I see it is that I found it very "Interesting" that someone could have such a point of view as written by the author in the text of that link. I didn't say I agreed.
I also found it "of interest" that Barbara also had Graves' Disease, that their son was diagnosed with a different autoimmune disorder, and that the dog was diagnosed with a third! And that they tried to blame it on the water in the Vice-President's home! Yes, I found this link very "Interesting!"
What I am trying to do with these pages is show the facts about what is being written and what is being read about Graves' Disease. I will stand by my convictions that you cannot win the war unless you know your enemy. These pages would not be representative of the whole picture of how Graves' Disease is viewed if I only made available what I considered to be "safe" information. There is nothing "safe" about the way that Graves' Disease is viewed in general, nor in the ways it is so tragically misunderstood.
I would very much like to thank Glynis for pointing out the need to explain and for her permission to place her comments on this page.
If you have an opinion and would like to express it here or privately, let me know.

VIEWPOINT ~ Glynis

"I figured I'd better clarify: this is a mean-spirited article. While there are some interesting things to "glean" from it, it basically paints a very nasty picture of Graves' disease and it's patients. The whole point of the article is to assasinate George Bush' character and ability to govern. One thing the article clearly shows is how very far the medical community has come in understanding Graves' since it was written! (There are many erroneous statements: a Venezualan endocrinologist attesting that Graves' is psychosomatic and caused when obsessive people don't get their obsessions consumated, thus causing the heart problems. Pathetic!!!)

So if you go there and read it, be prepared for something unpleasant..with a tidbit or two here and there of actually interesting material."

VIEWPOINT ~ Dianne

"It really WAS an INTERESTING article. My comments on it are quite similar to Glynis', and she wrote it quite well. I don't agree that it means doctors have come a long way since that article was written, unfortunately. There's an "alternative" doctor (an M.D. yet) on the internet whose claims are just as far off. Interesting that the symptoms of hyperthyroidism can be made to look serious when it suits the purpose of the writer, whereas we often run into them being invalidated or mimized.

I think our doctors, like the author of the article and the Venezuelan endo he referenced, often have difficulty distinguishing between the cause of G.D. and its manifestations on personality and emotions, almost as though we brought this on ourselves through a character defect, such as inability to handle stress. More likely the difficulty handling stress is instead an early symptom of G.D."
